Take these  learners to University early in their secondary schooling to expose them to possibilities. 

Supports HES premise re ' talking about future roles, encouraging strengths , valuing  Key Competencies ' Bringing role models to their world. 




Whanaungatanga

Whanaungatanga involves relationships (between students, school-wide, and with the community) based on high expectations. NZC 


Teachers and all staff ensure the connections are made whenever , however.  We continue to support students who have left HES .

Every PL meeting at HES begins with Photographs of new students - often 4-5 a week. 
 Explore where they have come from , living situation, who they are connected or related to already at school  and how best to meet their needs at present.

'Most strongly felt they belonged at HES.
Some recognised inclusive culture and strong positive messages  communicated within the community.
Although not explicit in all cases most showed an understanding of the vision being strong and reaching high or for potential .

Lots of groups of people, people from all over the world. They are kind...
My favourite school . At my other schools there was a lot of bullying.

It is fantastic and awesome teachers are really kind. I’ve never been so kindly treated by teachers even in Pakistan. Children are well mannered . Children help each other.

Because I feel love, everyone is being kind. I feel safe. That’s the HES thing . It tells you to be kind and helpful.

Teachers treat me well whenever someone need help the teachers help. This is my home the children are like my sisters and brothers . The teachers remind me of my aunties who I miss very much .
